Home Data Networks 7450 Ethernet Service Switch
7450 Ethernet Service Switch

The Alcatel-Lucent® 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) is a feature rich MPLS-based switch/router designed to aggregate and switch voice, video and data traffic in mission critical enterprise and service provider networks. It is ideally suited as a backbone and aggregation node in a network providing layer 2 connectivity for multiple locations and providing access to the layer 3 WAN access point.

The 7450 ESS router overcomes the limitations imposed by traditional Ethernet switches with Hierarchical QoS, MPLS resiliency capabilities, and more. It sets a new market standard for the delivery of Ethernet business services such as virtual private wire services (VPWS/VLL) and virtual private LAN services (VPLS).

The scalable performance and port density provided by the 7450 ESS is available in four chassis configurations including the 12-slot 7450 ESS-12, 7-slot 7450 ESS-7, 6-slot 7450 ESS-6, and 1-slot 7450 ESS-1.

Key selling points

  • Flexible H-QoS management enables network managers to support users requiring
different service classes on a per service, per port and per user basis
  • A wide range of product sizes and densities to match any requirements
  • Use of MPLS in combination with bridged Ethernet, stacked VLANs and spanning tree protocol dramatically improves network stability, scalability, availability and performance compared to existing Layer 2/3 Ethernet switches
  • Product scalability and programmable architecture ensure forklift-free upgrades, enable remote management and reduce truck rolls (technician deployment)
  • Built-in end-to-end Ethernet OAM capabilities enable rapid service assurance, diagnostics and mirroring
  • Superior service provisioning tools make it possible to bring new Ethernet services on line quickly

Key features

  • Service-oriented architecture supports SLA-based Ethernet services with filtering, shaping and QoS on a per-service and per user basis, and scales to support hundreds to tens of thousands of users
  • Supports IETF implementations of virtual private wire services (VPWS) and virtual private LAN services (VPLS) Key featuresKey selling points
  • Supports a variety of billing options based on deterministic, tiered or usage-based billing
  • Industry leading density (by 2-3 times per rack) compared to competing Layer 2/3 Ethernet switches with 10 Gb/s architecture
  • Programmable fast path enables quick and painless adaptation and upgrades to new and evolving standards
  • Enhanced troubleshooting tools: In-service software upgrade (ISSU) minimizes downtime between minor release upgrades. Service Assurance Agent (SAA),
which consists of OAM and debugging tools that allow network operators to collect statistics such as loss, jitter, latency, response time and packet loss. Multicast troubleshooting tools includes a full set of troubleshooting tools for multicast that allow network operators to assess the distribution of IP multicast traffic, to trace multicast paths in the network and to calculate performance metrics of the network
  • High availability: Nonstop services and nonstop routing that provide unparalleled availability and reliability. Nonstop services ensure that VPLS-based services and VPRNs are not affected when there is a CPM switchover on the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR. With non-stop routing, LDP adjacencies, sessions and the database remain intact if there is a switchover. Other differentiating high availability features include multi-chassis LAG and PW redundancy
  • Operations, administration and maintenance: Unmatched service-aware operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) toolkit and mirroring - service assurance capabilities needed to reduce mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) and ensure a predictable end-user experience and fully supported by the 5620 Service Access Manager which simplifies the provisioning, management and troubleshooting of IP/MPLS networks
